OUR DRUG AND ALCOHOL REHABILITATION CENTER

First Love Christian Church (FLCC) has a unique love for the poor and needy. Since the Church opened in 1993, FLCC has fed and clothed the homeless and taken care of the poor and needy.

Pastor Sun: "Jesus opened the door for me to minister to people in jail, then after two years, I started to work with the homeless. When I found the homeless people, I knelt down before God to thank Him for letting me work with the brokenharted, needy, rejected and lonely people. All I wanted to do was to please Jesus according to Matthew 25:35-46. I just wanted to hold them and tell them how much Jesus loves them."

For many years Pastor Sun would drive around the streets of downtown Denver and East Colfax looking in the streets and parks, desiring to help the homeless people.

In 2004 the Holy Spirit gave Pastor Sun a vision to open a program that would help the hurting and needy people in the streets of Colorado. This vision led to our Bethesda Program, a residential shelter of prayer and bible-focused recovery for homeless, drug and alcohol addicted men.

This program has been a blessing to the church and to the homeless. In its first two years, eight men graduated from the six-month program and three men from the one year program. Many of the graduates are working with new students, helping them to graduate as well.

We thank God every day for the Bethesda program, and believe that He will continue to bless this ministry.

God Changes Lives

"When I was 12 years old, I got saved, but it didn't change anything. I got caught up in the wrong crowd and started doing drugs and alcohol right away. Everything went bad, and to make a long story short, up until I came to First Love Christian church, I never knew what love was, I never knew who God really was. I had my idea of what I thought God was, but God was more like my dad. I didn't care for that either. I thought God was a punisher. I thought God was cruel. I thought God had a mean sense of humor. But then, I came to here to First Love Christian Church and I realized that my idea of God was totally wrong, totally wrong. God is loving and caring, and for the first time in my life I know what true love really is. That's one of the things I learned here, I couldn't get that anywhere else. I am 41 years old; my life is different just being here.

I didn't really know anything about the Holy Spirit. I knew Jesus and I thought Jesus was cool; I never really dealt with the Holy Spirit. I never even thought about the Holy Spirit. I was able to get in touch with the Holy Spirit at Victory Outreach. So I kind of knew about the Holy Spirit, but when I came to this church I realized just how strong the Holy Spirit was here, and I couldn't leave. I thought, "Let me think about staying here over the weekend", but when Monday morning came, I waved goodbye to them when they were taking people back downtown. I wasn't about to leave. I am still here, it has been fourteen months, and I am not about to go anywhere.

The Bethesda program made me grow emotionally. I have grown quite a bit spiritually. That used to be one of my biggest downfalls. I used to be oversensitive with people, and I would run away. It helped me to quit smoking. I was delivered from alcohol and drugs the day I got here. I have no desire for them whatsoever.

I don't want to go back out to the streets. I want to serve God. I don't miss the streets; there is nothing about "society" that has anything for me, because I've been out there too long already. There is nothing out there that I feel comfortable with.

Michael Bruce
(Bethesda Student Graduate)

Mike is one of our graduates at FLCC. Through the power of the Holy Spirit working through church leadership, God was able to deliver Mike from the addictions of drugs, alcohol and nicotine.

Above is the picture of Michael when he first came, and to the right is the picture of a totally different person after he completed the year program. Praise the Lord!!!

Most of the people in this program are homeless and have lost everything because of alcohol or drugs. During the year that they stay with us, they are not allowed to work because of the temptations that come with handling money and coming and going from the streets where they would have access to drugs and alcohol. The Church provides all their needs by the grace of God and the faithful support of all those who have made the decision to partner with us to bring true change to the City of Denver.

Thank you, and may God bless you abundantly...
